1999 Taiwan Chi-Chi Earthquake has been drawing much attention due to the different seismic faulting behaviors along the rupture and its associated hazards to society in the past. The understanding of the processes governing earthquake rupture and fault zone dynamics are the essential scientific issues for understanding the earthquake generation and rupture mechanism. The Taiwan Chelungpu-fault Drilling Project (TCDP) had brought precious first hand data to many aspects to this regard. To explore and integrate these results from various disciplines, we look forward to your participation to bring the close discussion and communication. We welcome not only the results from TCDP, but also the studies in other fault zones and the contributions related to the Chi-Chi earthquake, from field-based investigation, seismological observation, geophysical imaging, structural analysis, rock mechanics, core measurement, geochemistry as well as modeling. This session is aimed to discuss the fundamental issues of earthquake rupture mechanism, energy budget, and stress state of earthquake faulting.
